Today we only go 40 miles. From the Thunderbolt Georgia area to the next area with marinas is too far to go with the limited daylight hours. We could do it at a faster pace, but the fuel burn would be extremely painful in the wallet. The Walburg Island Anchorage is where we had anchored last June and it is a nice place. The tide range here is 9 feet and the current is around 2 mph. I knew I would not be getting much sleep this night worrying about the anchor holding. We only had one short shallow water area to go through today, about 1/2 mile. Once again we hit it at near low tide and Joe was driving. According to the shift schedule, I follow Joe at the helm, and here I am with Beth removing my stress after watching Joe successfully guide us through the shallows.
We arrived at the anchorage at high tide and dropped the anchor, it instantly stuck so, so far so good. The tide and current would next change around midnight, so I set my alarm for 1130. At 1130 I got up, started the generator and heaters and went to the bridge to supervise the tide change. By 1245 we had swung around the opposite direction and the anchor flipped and reset, so back to bed I went.
